Description
Chicken Yakitori Skewers are a classic Japanese grilled chicken recipe featuring tender marinated chicken glazed with a sweet and savory soy sauce, perfect for easy dinners or BBQs.
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs boneless chicken thighs, cut into pieces
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp sake or mirin
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 scallions, chopped
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Bamboo skewers (soaked in water)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
1. Cut chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces and place in a bowl.
2. In another bowl, mix soy sauce, sake or mirin, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and sesame oil.
3. Pour marinade over chicken and mix well. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
4. Soak bamboo skewers in water for 30 minutes.
5. Thread marinated chicken onto skewers, leaving space between pieces.
6. Preheat grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil grates.
7. Grill skewers for 4-5 minutes per side until fully cooked and slightly charred.
8. Brush with extra marinade during the last minutes of grilling.
9. Remove from grill and rest for 5 minutes.
10. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions before serving.
Notes
- Soak skewers to prevent burning during grilling.
- Use chicken thighs for juicier results than chicken breast.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
