Description

Garlic Butter Melted Cabbage is a tender, flavorful side dish cooked slowly in butter, garlic, and herbs until perfectly soft and caramelized. This easy low-carb cabbage recipe is rich, savory, and perfect for weeknight dinners or healthy meal prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large green cabbage (about 2 pounds)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth

Instructions

1. Remove outer leaves from the cabbage, rinse it, and slice into thick wedges while keeping the core intact.

2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat and add olive oil.

3. Add minced garlic and sliced onion and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until fragrant and slightly softened.

4. Place cabbage wedges into the skillet and cook for 4 to 5 minutes to allow light caramelization.

5. Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes if using.

6. Pour chicken or vegetable broth into the pan around the cabbage wedges.

7. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover the skillet, and cook for 12 to 15 minutes until cabbage becomes tender.

8. Carefully flip the cabbage wedges and spoon garlic butter sauce over the top.

9. Continue cooking uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes until edges become golden and the sauce slightly reduces.

10. Sprinkle parmesan cheese during the final minutes if desired.

11. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley and lemon juice before serving.

Notes

  • Keep cabbage wedges thick so they hold together during cooking.
  • Cook slowly to allow the cabbage to soften and absorb the garlic butter flavor.
  • Add parmesan cheese near the end so it melts without burning.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently in a skillet with a little butter or olive oil for best texture.
