- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 6–8 slices American cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
- 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
- 1/2 cup dill pickles, sliced
- 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon relish
- 1 tablespoon butter or neutral oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and relish to make the burger sauce. Refrigerate.
- Divide ground beef into 6-8 loose balls (about 3 ounces each).
- Preheat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
- Place a tortilla on a flat surface and press one beef ball thinly across the tortilla.
- Season the beef side with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Place tortilla beef-side down in the hot skillet and press firmly with a spatula. Cook 2-3 minutes until crispy and browned.
- Flip so tortilla side is down and top beef with a slice of American cheese.
- Cook 1-2 more minutes until tortilla is golden and cheese melts.
- Remove from skillet and rest 1-2 minutes.
- Top with burger sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and red onion.
- Fold and serve immediately while hot and crispy.
Notes
- Do not overwork the beef to ensure crispy edges.
- Reheat leftovers in a skillet or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
- Store toppings separately to prevent sogginess.
- Freeze cooked beef-tortilla bases without toppings for up to 2 months.
